Couldn’t agree more with Ben. Kyle brings a lot more than Noah and Cortez. Both awesome players but I think Kyle brings a maturity and edge that would compliment our number one Cam!

The first paragraph of this article states “showed form is valuable” referring to the selection process. I don’t believe this is true. When selecting the loose forwards I think the selection was decided prior to the finals. This is evident in the omissions of Blackadder and Lio Willie who were the form loose forwards.

David Havili might not be anyone’s pick to start a test but his form is undeniable, his presence would make selecting fresh faces in the centres more stable, something James O’Conner did the No. 10’s for the Crusaders.

Unless I watched a different finals “in form” is not how I would describe Ioane , he hasn’t impressed with the ball since pre World Cup, Finau and Jacobson failed to make a presence during the Final and were completely outplayed by their Red & Black counterparts.

I hope the “strategic “ selections pay off.

It certainly highlights a few issues; short locks and short non-jumping backrow and the Scottish forwards coach who likes lineouts thrown to the rear aren’t a good combo. Australia could dominate the lineout depending on selection. A small backrow who like to play with width aren’t going to get you the hard yards. You’re not going to play Smith at 15 and Van der Merwe on the wings that’s for certain. The Lions pack aren’t going to be physical or direct in comparison to the last two Lions tours, they’re going to want to play quick ball with width so Joe won’t mind that at all. Slow the Lions breakdown, physical defence that stop gainline and it’s going to make things hard for this Lions pack.


Lose another game and the loss to Argentina certainly will stack on the pressure.

It’s rubbish, the Super Rugby sides can pick whoever they want, they aren’t contracted to play anyone so Rugby Australia can release players to play but the Super Rugby clubs don’t have to select them to play.

Don’t see how you can conclude that at all. A 6-2 bench might be highly unlikely, but having only 5 looses in the squad isn’t the reason.

Joe isn’t going to mess with things this close to the match. Joe’s starting 9, 10, 12, 13 and 15 will be; Gordon, Lolesio, Ikitau, Suaalii and Wright. And even though they’ve not played well or played little probably Kellaway and Jorgensen on the wings. Daugunu and Potter if he selects on SR form but Kellaway and Jorgensen know his structures and will I imagine will get first crack.

The one Lion to stake early Test place claim in loss to Argentina

I think Andy farrells selection headache upfront may actually be in the 2nd row, I fully appreciate that it’s tantamount to heresy to even offer

a scintilla of of doubt re Maro itojis place in the engine room, but I remain unconvinced he’s the man to lead the lions.

It must be remembered that the captain of the Lions, has to produce totemic performances enerytime they lead the team ( Think Mcbride, Johnson, O connelly et al).

You cannot merely do ok, your starting place has to be beyond question, based on merit.

Im fairly sure that Mr Chessum, Mccarthy, Ryan and Mr beirne will have much to say on the matter!!

The 71 lions did indeed lose their 1st game, but as far as comparisons go, that’s it.

This Lions squad is not remotely in the same league as the class of 71, in fact it’s bang average and they can count themselves lucky that they’re touring Australia and not NZ, SA or indeed Argentina!!

nonsense yourself - Test quality players have nothing to do with the amount of regions Oz can put out. They don’t have the depth which is why they’re constantly offering huge contracts to players plying their trades in League and Ozzie rules. pay attention - quality and quantity are two different things.
