All Black Emoni Narawa re-signs with Chiefs until 2026

Breakout 2023 star Emoni Narawa has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby and the Chiefs through to 2026.

In his first year as a starter for the Waikato club, the 24-year-old took Super Rugby by storm and earned himself an All Blacks call-up.

After scoring on debut against Argentina, Narawa was impeded by injury and after being selected for the Rugby World Cup squad, left France just a week into the tournament due to a back complaint.

Upon returning from that injury this season, Narawa has scored eight tries in just seven outings to retain his status as one of the competition's premier scoring threats.

“It is fantastic that Emoni has recommitted to the Gallagher Chiefs for the next few years. He has always had massive potential, and it has been a real pleasure seeing that talent realised over the last few seasons, exemplified by his selection as an All Black in 2023,” Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillan said.

Narawa began his Super Rugby journey with the Blues after coming through the Chiefs system and representing Bay of Plenty in the NPC. The Fijian-born flyer has famously credited the birth of his first child for his growth both off the field and on, with his dedication to the sport taking a leap in recent years.

McMillan was sure to acknowledge his star winger's young family as a big part of his Chiefs journey.

“Emoni has an unbelievable ability to see space and create opportunities for himself and others. He is a valued team member and a real character who contributes significantly both on and off the field.

“Many people have contributed to Emoni’s journey, but none more so than his young family. They have given him stability and a real purpose in life and we are grateful they too will continue to be a part of the Chiefs wh?nau.”

Narawa's extension secures the immediate future of one of the most dangerous back threes in Super Rugby Pacific, with fellow Chiefs stars Shaun Stevenson and Etene Nanai-Seturo having also put pen to paper last year.

Narawa expressed his excitement and gratitude for the signing.

“I’m really blessed and grateful for the opportunity to extend my time with the Chiefs until 2026. This club is our family and has definitely helped me become the player that I am today. God is good, excited for what’s to come.”
