Ardie Savea decides on post-World Cup future

All Black flanker Ardie Savea has decided on his post-World Cup playing future.
The 25-year-old had earlier this year signed a one-year extension to the end of 2019 while he weighed up potential overseas suitors, before a bumper end to The Rugby Championship and November tour in the starting side rose his playing stocks further.
Savea has announced he has re-signed with the NZR and Hurricanes for two more years in 2020 and 2021 and will remain at home for the foreseeable future.
He said he 'couldn't leave' with home, family and the opportunity to keep playing for the Wellington Lions, Hurricanes and All Blacks too much to pass up.
Savea was linked with Top 14 club Pau who were chasing his signature for a post-World Cup deal, however earlier this month Pau president Bernard Pontneau cleared up the situation stating he would not be coming.
"It is for certain that he will not be coming," Pontneau said.
"It's disappointing but it's also the risk you take when wanting to recruit a young player."

Go to commentsMcKenzie is better than Barrett , but not better than Richie Mo'unga. Richie regularly outplayed DMac in Super Rugby. , as he did in the 2023 Final in Hamilton. I remember the 2021 Aotearoa Super Rugby Final here in CHCH. Mo'unga took him to the cleaners. McKenzie is a fine footballer , but at best a hybrid 10 . Fergus Burke , ( now playing in England ), who made a big difference when he came back late in the Crusaders season , is a better 10 than DMac. I also think 140 game + Crusader Matt Todd was always a better no 7 than Sam Cane.A big part of 3 title winning teams when South African teams were still in the comp. How many titles did the Chiefs win in that period of time?
