Bad news for Wales back rower Aaron Shingler

By Online Editors

Wales back-row Aaron Shingler could be sidelined until December after undergoing surgery on his injured knee.

The injury will rule the 30-year-old out for Wales' autumn Test series, after he was ruled out of the summer series earlier in the week.

Shingler suffered the knee injury during Scarlets' PRO14 final loss against Leinster in Dublin.

An earlier statement from the Welsh Rugby Union said: "Scarlets flanker Aaron Shingler has been ruled out of Wales' summer tour. Shingler suffered an injury in the Pro 14 final yesterday that requires further assessment and precludes him from taking part in the tour.

Shingler took to Twitter to share the extent of the injury post-assessment.

"Injury update from me, torn my ACL, had the op yesterday [Thursday]. Hopefully be back around Christmas time."

Shingler is one of two players recently ruled out for the autumn tour, joining winger Ashton Hewitt on the sidelines.

Eight-test Welshman Josh Turnbull has been called into the squad to replace the injured back rower, while Warren Gatland has opted not to replace Hewitt.

Shingler's Wales and Scarlets teammate Jonathan Evans is set miss the start of the 2018-19 season after damaging his shoulder in the same match.

Wales kick off their summer international period with a fixture against South Africa in Washington D.C. on Saturday before heading to Argentina for a three-Test series.
