Ben Spencer commits to Bath in long-term deal

Bath captain Ben Spencer has signed a new three-year contract at the club, keeping him at the Rec until the summer of 2028.

The 32-year-old follows his understudy Tom Carr-Smith in signing a new deal, although there had been some uncertainty as to where the scrum-half’s future lay as he has consistently struggled to break into the England team despite signs of promise.

This new deal will ensure Spencer is eligible for England beyond the World Cup in 2027, which will provide more options at No.9 for head coach Steve Borthwick.

Spencer has made 108 appearances for the West Country outfit since joining from Saracens in 2020, and captained the club to the Gallagher Premiership final last season. His side are sitting at the top of the ladder this season with seven rounds of the regular season remaining.

“Time and again, Ben has demonstrated he can perform on the biggest stage and is such a huge part of what we are all working towards on our journey at the club.”

I’m not a ‘hater’ of the guy at all but Billy Procter is not the ‘Test’ 13 that Reiko is. Billys Super form in a team that actually played with width and promoted the ball into the hands of its outside backs is still questionable…. And since when in NZ’s rugby history has Super form warranted breaking up a NOT broke 40+ TEST midfield combo and one that is the best in the world.

Boks have 3 test flyhalves at their disposal. Looking forward to seeing Manie nail pressure kicks. I don’t have a preference at 10 as long as they nail their kicks at 85/90 per cent. Creating tries and a solid defense is another non negotiable.

Nar there’s something more to it than that. Take the Aussie game for instance, there were already 3 or 4 tries up and then Dmacs involved in three or four other plays were he doesn’t read his team properly or fumbled.

Though I have criticized Razor for putting unnecessary pressure on him. He acts like “ahh were just giving him a chance to learn his craft” but he’s bs, he has an intense pressure increasing vibe about him. It’s possible that the environment rather than the opposition was doing it then.

Toulouse need extra-time to beat Bordeaux to Top 14 title

The best two club sides on the planet by an absolute mile. An excellent game of rugby it had everything. However, Toulouse even with all the injuries just have serial winners on that team and know how to win finals. The top 14 is the best competition as it is so competitive, rich history of rivalries and the array of talent on all 14 trams is unbelievable. The CC needs to change up the format which is destroying a once great competition. The old 4 team group format was fantastic and almost every game pivotal. Then need to return to something similar.

Not too many I don’t think though, some with Wallabies and maybe some out. So you know theyre not likely to be the actual Force team but you’re going to make judgments as if they are?

You’re really not making much sense Graham. That would be cool though, who are they going to play?

But if they are better than a team that pushed the Lions for 40+ minutes, dominating territory and possession, they deserve to have a higher profile and play in a higher standard of competition.
