Gloucester Rugby respond to Gloucestershire Constabulary statement

Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed to the local media this morning that Gloucester Rugby Head Coach Johan Ackermann and his son Ruan will face no action from police over an incident in a nightclub.

The pair had been alleged via social media to have been involved in a brawl in which one was man injured in December.

A club spokesman confirmed:

"A police investigation into a recent incident involving Johan and Ruan Ackermann has confirmed that no further action will be taken.

"Having fully supported Johan and Ruan throughout this process, the Club is delighted with the outcome of the investigation. Today's news allows everyone involved to move on and to focus on an important few weeks on the pitch in the run in to the end of the season."

Gloucester Rugby will be making no further comment on the matter."

It has also been confirmed that centre Matt Scott will leave the club to return to Edinburgh Rugby.

The 27-year-old moved south to join Gloucester from Edinburgh in the summer of 2016. He was a regular in his first season in the Cherry and White of Gloucester, making 25 appearances and scoring 13 tries.

Gloucester Rugby's Director of Rugby David Humphreys confirmed the news this morning:

"Matt's been an excellent professional during his time at the club, but we can appreciate his reasons for wanting to return to Scotland.

"He made a real impact during his first season here in particular, but the timing of his ankle injury this season was very unfortunate and has limited his opportunities. He's worked hard to get back to fitness, has done a good job in recent weeks and will have a role to play for the rest of the season."

Scott stated: "It's been a terrific experience. I firmly believe that playing in the Aviva Premiership has made me a better player overall. I've loved being part of the Gloucester squad and, in particular, performing in front of the Kingsholm crowd who have been amazing. I've made some great friends and will look back fondly on my time here.

"The opportunity to return to Edinburgh was too good to turn down really and I'm looking forward to the challenge. But we still have a lot of big games here at Gloucester and I'm determined to play my part and help the team finish on a high."
