Bristol have pulled off a major coup by tempting former France international Virimi Vakatawa out of retirement.

Fiji-born Vakatawa was forced to walk away from professional rugby last September due to the discovery of a medical issue related to his heart.

Rules in France prevented Vakatawa from continuing to play for Racing 92 and he effectively retired, but last month he featured for Barbarians, who were being coached by Bristol director of rugby Pat Lam.

Lam and Bristol sought the advice of an expert panel of leading sports cardiologists and following an independent review, Vakatawa has signed on a 12-month deal after he was cleared to play in England.

“I’m excited to be joining Bristol Bears and to be continuing my rugby career at the highest level,” Vakatawa told the official club website.

“After working with Pat during my time with the Barbarians, I knew that this was the right place for me and I can’t wait to play in front of the Bristol fans.

“The Premiership has always been an exciting competition, so I’m looking forward to experiencing it this season, and representing the Bears in the Champions Cup.”

Vakatawa, 31, spent more than a decade at Racing before his shock retirement and helped them reach the Champions Cup final in 2018 and 2020.

Bristol director of rugby Lam is excited to see the all-action centre at Ashton Gate.

He added: “I am really pleased to be able to bring a player of Virimi’s class and quality to Bristol and the Gallagher Premiership as it’s exciting for our team, our supporters and our competition.

“I had the privilege of getting to know V better on and off the field recently and it was very clear to me that he would add real value to the Bears and would bring more depth and experience to our backline.

“Virimi is desperate to get back to playing at the highest level. For the Bears to be able to bring in a player of his quality is a huge statement for the Premiership and we’re delighted that he has chosen to continue his rugby journey with us.”

Hopefully he could turn out for Fiji Drua in a year, that would be a great addition to their team and comp.

Great player but poor in defense.

The Danty / Fickou pair far more reliable than replacing either with V

But a nice and humble team mate

Fantastic to see this juggernaut of French rugby able to take to the pitch again. Can’t imagine what the French midfield would have been like with Virimi and Danty in the centres. Whew, what a let off for their opponents.

Leinster cleanse palette with record URC scoreline against Zebre

My name is Solenn Bonnet, and I am a single mother navigating the challenges of raising my two-year-old child while trying to make ends meet. I came across a trading platform that promised astonishing daily profits of 18%. The allure of such a high return on investment was too tempting to resist, and I found myself drawn into cryptocurrency trading. Excited by the prospect of financial freedom, I invested a significant amount of my savings, totaling over 5.7 BTC. However, what started as a hopeful venture quickly turned into a nightmare. The platform was a scam, and I lost everything I had invested. The emotional toll of this loss was immense; I felt devastated and helpless, struggling to provide for my child and keep up with my bills. In my desperate attempt to recover my funds, I sought help from various recovery experts. Unfortunately, I encountered numerous fraudulent individuals who claimed they could help me retrieve my lost money. Each time I reached out, I was met with disappointment and further scams, which only deepened my despair. Last year was one of the most challenging periods of my life, filled with anxiety and uncertainty about my financial future. Feeling overwhelmed and at a loss, I confided in a close friend from church about my situation. She listened compassionately and shared her own experiences with financial difficulties. Understanding my plight, she introduced me to Tech Cyber Force Recovery, a group of skilled hackers known for their expertise in recovering lost funds. Skeptical yet hopeful, I decided to reach out to them as a last resort. Their services came at a higher cost, but my friend generously offered to help me with a partial payment. I was amazed by how quickly they responded and began the recovery process. Their team was professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire ordeal. To my relief, they successfully recovered more than I had lost to those heartless scammers. This was truly transformative, and I felt a sense of relief and gratitude that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I strongly encourage anyone who has faced similar challenges or fallen victim to scams to reach out to Tech Cyber Force Recovery. If you’ve invested in a fraudulent platform like I did, they are highly capable of helping you reclaim your hard-earned money. Don’t lose hope; there is a way to recover what you’ve lost.
