Building managers called to Wayne Pivac's son's Auckland apartment at 3.45am
Building managers were forced to knock on the door Wayne Pivac's son's Auckland apartment at 3.45 AM following his dad's debut as head coach of Wales.
Proud son Bradley was watching Wales and Barbarians slug it out at the Principality Stadium, his dad's first game in charge of the men in red.
Pivac Snr succeeds iconic head coach Warren Gatland and duly clinched a 43-33 victory over his predecessor in a scrappy but high scoring encounter in the Welsh capital.
As it happened, Wayne's son Bradley was alone in his apartment on the other side of the world in Auckland. Such was the noise that his neighbours thought a late-night party was taking place.
Pivac Jnr tweeted: "Living in an apartment + dads first game as Welsh Coach being at 3:45am has resulted in the building managers knocking on my door due to complaints from my neighbours about a loud party occurring... it’s just me."
He added: "Proud son moment to see the old fella coaching a country he loves so much! Nos Da"
Pivac Snr reflected on a lot of work ons despite a winning start to his Welsh career. "We're pretty happy with scoring 43 points but conceding 33 means there's a lot to look at."
"This week has been really invaluable to us. We have put together some of the building blocks for the Six Nations in place, so we will be that much more advanced coming into camp two weeks out from the Italian game.
"We learned a lot this week and here today. It was a bit of an examination for them after a week's work and thought some players played very well."
An emotional Gatland - who now heads to the Waikato Chiefs in his native New Zealand - bid Wales goodbye in his post-match interview.
“I love this place…it has a really special place in my heart," Gatland told Channel 4 Sport.

So if this ain’t the best Irish team ever then who exactly is? I don’t remember any other Irish team being this good & winning a series in the Land of the Long White Cloud. Yes I may rip them often for 8 X QF RWC exits & twice not even making it to the QF, but they’re a damn good team who many think can only improve, including me!
Go to commentsNot a squeek out of Leinster for weeks about this match. So quiet. The first team have been quitely building for this encounter under Nienaber’s direction. All fresh, all highly motivated. They are expecting a season’s best performance from Northhampton. They will match that. They will be fresher and apparently they will have 80,000 out of the 83,000 shouting for them. I do expect Northhampton to turn up big time. Not to be missed. On a tangent it is evident how the loss of a few Premiership teams has in some respect helped other Premiership teams and England. More quality over less teams makes the teams better, which has a knock on effect on England. Not the only factor contributing to England’s rise but one of them.
