Bulls clinch bonus-point win over Lions in URC

Bulls boosted their United Rugby Championship top-four credentials with a 31-19 bonus-point win over Lions at Loftus Versfeld.

Three tries in the opening 12 minutes from Canan Moodie, Willie le Roux and Sebastian de Klerk saw the Bulls race into a 17-0 lead, with Moodie and Marco van Staden adding further scores after the interval, David Kriel converting three of them.

Lions responded with tries from Henco van Wyk, PJ Botha and Richard Kriel, Gianni Lombard twice adding the extras, as they suffered a fifth defeat in six games.

    Yep the complaining about the refs thing really didn’t help us. We also seemed to lack a plan b during that time. We were out coached by every other good nation. But yes his players love him and he has a way of firing squads up for the first 2 years!

    So you rate attendance figures as the sole judge of success Graham? If your method was used all around the world then no sport would be “ a success" in any small/smaller country. NZ will never compete with eyes on the game. We have 5mil population Graham. So what’s your suggestion on how you get 45000 to watch a game of rugby in Hamilton when the population is under 200,000. Thats like a game in London getting 5million.

    SR will never compete against the populations of the UK/SA but so what. England, Ireland, Wales, SA, Scotland, France and every other nation you want to mention have a “less successful" record against NZ solely due to the quality of our domestic comps. SR is part of that.

    SR developed more world cup winners than any other comp inc many of the current SA team. Yes that’s changing now as they have deserted the cmp some years ago, but the 23 squad had plenty of SR experienced players in it.

    SR doesn’t make the money the UK comps do but SR is not dictated to by rich owners. Didnt they lose a couple of teams this year due to rich owners getting sick of losing money?
