Bulls prop cited for late hit on McKenzie
Bulls replacement prop Conraad van Vuuren has been cited for his game-changing late tackle on Damian McKenzie during his side's 28-41 loss to the Chiefs.
McKenzie was hit by van Vuuren's swinging arm above the shoulders after passing to Anton Lienert-Brown in the 67th minute.
Referee Shuhei Kubo initially considered a red card, but after some deliberation with TMO Shane McDermott the pair opted for a yellow.
The Citing Commissioner deemed van Vuuren's offence actually worthy of a red card, infringing on Law 9.13, which states a player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously.
Van Vuuren's error became a significant turning point in the game. With scored at 28-29 in favour of the Chiefs with just 13 minutes left to play, van Vuuren was sent from the field and could only watch while the Chiefs added a try to extend their lead before he returned.
The Case is to be considered in the first instance by the SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee which will take place on Sunday via video-conference.
