Cardiff look to ease injury crisis with signing of Bristol wing

Ryan Edwards has signed for Cardiff

Cardiff Blues had added to their back-three options with the signature of wing Ryan Edwards from Bristol Bears for the rest of the season.

Edwards previously had a spell with Cardiff in 2018, but only made one appearance, and has now been brought back to the region in effort to ease an injury-crisis across the backline.

The Blues are currently without Owen Lane, Hallam Amos, Matthew Morgan, Aled Summerhill and Harri Millard, while Josh Adams remains unavailable due to Wales duty.

The 29-year-old wing was born in Newport and came through the Dragons academy before studying in Bristol. He made 82 appearances over eight seasons for the English club.

Cardiff Blues head coach John Mulvihill said: “We’ll get Hallam and hopefully Aled back within the next few weeks but we’re still a bit light in the back three and Ryan gives us a little bit more depth there.

“He is an accomplished and experienced player, who is fast, deceptively strong and abrasive. We look forward to welcoming him back to our set-up this week and he will be available for selection against Connacht.”

Edwards is set to link up with the Cardiff squad on Tuesday ahead of their Guinness Pro14 game away to Connacht on February 15.
