Centre's fractured jaw the latest injury blow for Glasgow

Glasgow Warriors players celebrate a try

Glasgow's Sam Johnson will be sidelined for at least 10 weeks after undergoing surgery on a fractured jaw.

The former Reds centre suffered the injury in the Warriors' home Champions Cup defeat to Montpellier.

Head coach Dave Rennie described Johnson last week as "probably our best midfielder in the first three months" of their PRO14 campaign.

Wing Leonardo Sarto, who scored two tries last weekend, requires further investigation into a shoulder injury.

They are among 12 Glasgow players currently sidelined, including fullback Stuart Hogg and flank Callum Gibbins.

Johnson will miss the rest of Warriors' Champions Cup campaign and half-a-dozen PRO14 matches before an expected return in late February.

Warriors haven’t been able to emulate their domestic success on the European stage this season but former Chiefs coach Rennie refused to fault his players’ attitude in any of the four matches.

He said: "It’s been a challenging campaign and we’re 0/4 but every game we’ve been right up amongst it.

"We’ll take some learnings from this but that attitude coming in was that we were going to make a statement that we are a better side than the results have shown so far.

"When we got behind we tended to chase it and needed a bit more composure in the last ten minutes, playing at the right end of the field etc. But like I said, the attitude was excellent."
