Bath lock Charlie Ewels has set his sights on winning silverware with Bath after signing a new contract at the Rec until 2027.

The 30-cap England international is the latest player to sign on with the West Country outfit in what has been a productive month for them so far.

Bath have experienced a resurgence this season, sitting in third place in the Gallagher Premiership and into the round of 16 in the Investec Champions Cup, and Ewels said the “ultimate goal is to win things”.

The 28-year-old’s attention will be firmly set on winning things for England for the time being though, as he was drafted into Steve Borthwick’s Guinness Six Nations squad as cover for Saracens’ Nick Isiekwe for England’s training camp in Girona ahead of the Championship.

After signing his new deal, Ewels said: “I am delighted to be staying. It’s a really exciting time at the club and a really exciting place to be at the moment.”

“It’s somewhere I’ve spent my whole career and it’s the right place for me to be for the next three years. The ultimate goal is to win things, it’s the easiest thing to say but the hardest thing to do. There’s a squad that’s been together for a period of time now and shared some pretty tough experiences together, so I want that group of players to share winning together.”

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan added: “Charlie is one of the most professional players that I have coached in my professional career. His attention to detail, his leadership qualities, his communication skills, plus most importantly he turns up week on week.

“Charlie had a big injury a year ago, but what he has done this season has been magnificent, a true international lock and I am very glad that he’s staying at Bath Rugby.”

Unfotunately Charlie has not lived up to his promise from when he was very young (I watched when he was 14). He has a presence with his height amd bulk but his skill levels are low, as is the energy and lack of dominance he puts into his game. He really needs to work on his game. Launchbury at Ewels current age was ,and still is a far, far more influential and skillfull player.
