Chris Boyd eyes All Blacks to bolster Saints

According to a report from The Daily Mail, former Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd is eyeing All Black pair Ryan Crotty and Matt Proctor to bolster his side.
Newly minted Northampton boss Boyd is after a centre to replace former Wallaby Rob Horne, with his search reportedly narrowed to Crotty, Proctor, Springbok Jesse Kriel and Englishman Jonathan Joseph.
He has narrowed down his search to All Blacks Crotty and Proctor, Springbok Jesse Kriel and England midfielder Jonathan Joseph, the Daily Mail reports.
Crotty and Proctor are two of 25 All Blacks coming off contract in 2019, with plenty emerging as targets for offshore clubs.
New Zealand Rugby (NZR) chief executive Steve Tew admitted to Fairfax in August that retaining all of the players that are off contract would be a challenge, especially without the Lions tour as a bargaining chip.
"Inevitably, there will be some players who we don't keep who are currently in that jersey," Tew told Fairfax.
26-year-old Proctor won his first All Blacks cap against Japan last year after five seasons with the Hurricanes.
He scored a test try on debut and Boyd has been vocal about his opinion of the midfielder, rating him as "the best centre in New Zealand" in an interview last year.
30-year-old Crotty is heading towards the tail-end of his career and is an outside chance to last another World Cup cycle.
The 43-test veteran has become a linchpin in the All Black midfield since his debut in 2013, becoming a regular starter after the 2015 retirement of longtime centre Conrad Smith.

The purpose of the MP team is surely to benefit all parties involved.
This includes fostering a Pasifika base that can strengthen Tonga, Samoa, and the All Blacks. These goals are not mutually exclusive.
The claim of a "real purpose" seems like subterfuge for a self-centered agenda—insisting that NZ Rugby should bear all the sacrifices and reap none of the benefits.
If Seilala Mapusua believed the idea was different—thankfully, we don't live in a world where personal opinions override mutually agreed legal and policy commitments.
NZ Rugby is not a charitable organization. Its primary purpose should always be to benefit NZ Rugby. If it can assist others, that’s great, but it should not be held hostage to external demands.
Also, this is international rugby, not interracial rugby. The players in question are NZ-born, bred, and developed. The notion that NZ Rugby would agree to refrain from selecting NZ players who wish to represent New Zealand is not worth serious consideration.
