Curtis Langdon becomes 14th Worcester player to find a new club
Out-of-work England international Curtis Langdon has become the 14th Worcester player to quickly find a new club after the cash-strapped Warriors were kicked out of the Gallagher Premiership and automatically relegated to the 2023/24 Championship.
The hooker, who was capped twice by Eddie Jones during the 2021 Summer Series, had switched from Sale to Worcester during the 2022 off-season but the 25-year-old only got to play three matches for Steve Diamond’s team before the club folded.
Last week, his ex-Sale boss Alex Sanderson commiserated with the difficult situation Langdon had found himself in so soon after joining Worcester, telling RugbyPass: “Curtis Langdon came around to one of our games, a Prem Cup game, the other week. They still come back and we see them around Hale and Altringham. They are very much part of the Sale family.”
A week later, there was a far better update about the front-rower as he was confirmed as a new signing by Montpellier, the defending Top 14 champions. “Excited to be in Montpellier, can’t wait to play,” tweeted Langdon after the club released a statement welcoming him to France.
It read: “Montpellier Herault Rugby has formalised the arrival of Englishman Curtis Langdon as an additional player for this 2022/2023 season.
“Born on August 3, 1997, in Weston-super-Mare, Curtis Langdon is a hooker who passed through the London Irish and who cut his teeth at the Sale Sharks, with whom he played 89 professional matches. Selected by Eddie Jones twice with the England XV 2021, he played this season at the Worcester Warriors and joins the Montpellier squad with immediate effect. Welcome, Curtis!”
Thirteen other Worcester players had found new clubs before Langdon’s contract news. Ollie Lawrence and Fergus Lee-Warner had joined Bath, who also have Ted Hill and Valery Morozov on loan, Alex Hearle, Seb Atkinson and Finn Theobald-Thomas are at Gloucester, Tom Howe and Andrew Kitchener were picked up by Saracens, while Duhan van der Merwe (Edinburgh), Joe Batley (Bristol), Rory Sutherland (Ulster) and Fin Smith (Northampton) have also moved.

500k registered players in SA are scoolgoers and 90% of them don't go on to senior club rugby. SA is fed by having hundreds upon hundreds of schools that play rugby - school rugby is an institution of note in SA - but as I say for the vast majority when they leave school that's it.
