All Blacks legend Dan Carter is set to finish his career in Japan with the Kobelco Steelers in the Japan Top League, as sources informed Kyodo News on Thursday.
Signing with Kobe Steelers would see Carter reunite with Andy Ellis, his longtime halfback partner with both the All Blacks and the Crusaders, along with former Wallaby star Adam Ashley-Cooper.
Former Wallabies and Queensland Reds attack coach Jim McKay is the head coach at Kobe.
The Steelers also have a relationship with Wayne Smith, a former coach with both New Zealand and the Crusaders Super Rugby side, and wear playing kit made by Adidas, who have a sponsorship deal with Carter.
Kobe were the first ever Top League champions in 2003-04 and finished fourth in the 2016/17 season. They are currently second on the table this season. The signing of Carter would further strengthen their status as title contenders.

The beauty of rugby is in its variability: many different ways to win. I want to see running rugby, I want to see free flow counter-attacking rugby, but I also want to see mauls, and scrums, and lineouts, and proper breskdown battles with exciting turnovers.
There is a reason rugby is a top 10 global sport, whereas no one really gives a hoot about league. You’ve seen 20mins of a league match, you’ve seen it all.
I don’t want to see rugby degrade into 80 mins of foot race. And I don’t think, that that’s what the majority of rugby fans want.

Don’t think the Bears are legit title contenders. You can lose, but not like this. Getting bent over and pumped like this completely removes the fear factor of s team.
