Danny Care's lie detector test: Saracens, Matson and Man Utd
Out-of-favour England scrum-half Danny Care has revealed to BT Sport that he wishes every day he was a professional footballer, while he also admitted to a long-standing dislike of Saracens, Harlequins’ huge London rivals in the Gallagher Premiership. The half-back was grilled by presenter Craig Doyle while hooked up to a lie detector kit in the latest episode of the sports channel’s series which was filmed at Twickenham at the start of this season.
During the warm-up section in the six-minute piece of footage, Care revealed his annoyance over his middle name Stuart, got caught out over a question on whether his hair is genuinely his hair (it’s taken from the back and put into the front), and was quizzed if he ever used botox, a product that he brother uses.
Switching to rugby, Care spoke about why Joe Marler is his favourite in the Harlequins dressing room before the inquisition took a more serious turn when the soon-to-be 36-year-old was asked if Saracens were the team he dislikes the most? “It’s the team that have annoyed me the most. Yes,” said Care, an answer shown to be true by the lie detector kit.
Doyle added: “We don’t want people mixing up hatred and dislike. You are talking about them because they are good and a threat?” Care responded: “100 per cent and the massive thing about it is it’s a jealousy, seeing them lift as many trophies as they have done, seeing your biggest rivals, your closest rivals, the London derby and them having all that success - there is definitely a jealously to that.
There was one further rugby question before the interview changed tack. Care answered no when asked if he had ever lied to Harlequins boss Tabai Matson? The lie detector kit suggested otherwise. “I have lied? I don’t think so. I don’t think I have lied to Tabai. My memory is terrible as well…”
Football was the topic that the test ended with, Doyle asking Care if he ever wished he became a professional in that sport rather than rugby. “Every day. I wouldn’t still be playing I don’t think. I think I’d be on a golf course today and every day. The answer is I don’t know.
“My dad thinks I could have played at some level. I think I could have played at some level when I see some of the players these days but you never know. I could literally be playing centre mid for United now and doing alright.”
