Doctors diagnose illness that saw former All Black Thomson rushed to hospital
Former All Blacks backrow Adam Thomson was rushed to hospital in Japan this week, with doctors initially struggling to diagnose what exactly was wrong with him.
The 29 cap All Black who plays his rugby for Cannon Eagles was rushed to hospital and has spent the last six days attempting to recover.
Thomson was taken to Tsukuba Memorial Hospital complaining of excruciating pain, which doctors first believed may have been the result of internal inflammation as a result of an infection.
After lying prone in a hospital, with his beautiful partner Jessie Guru by his side, he awaited diagnosis, which was initially slow to come. The 6'5, 110kg backrow was apparently unable to walk.
Ms Guru wrote: "Christmas this year so far has been mostly spent in hospital with the BFG giving me the biggest fright in the 6 years we've been doing life together. A few nights ago I had to rush him to A&E in the middle of the night and it's been one hell of an ordeal."
However doctors have now diagnosed the illness as lumbar discitis, an infection in the intervertebral disc space. Doctors will likely treat it aggressively with anti-biotics and the prognosis is good for the larger than life All Black.
The 35-year-old won his first cap in 2008 and went on to win 29 caps up until his last in 2012.

SA has consistently been protected by WR/IRB officials for the past 3 decades. This same protection and bias was also clearly evident in SR when they competed there and SA were never the top SA rugby nation. They went 9 years without winning it before fleeing.
