'Don't worry about me' - England prop Genge's message to fans
England and Leicester Tigers prop Ellis Genge will miss the November Test series and start of the Premiership due to a knee injury.
The 23-year-old underwent surgery on a knee injury suffered on international duty in June, Leicester Tigers have confirmed that prop Ellis Genge will miss the start of the new season.
Front row Genge was part of the England squad on tour in South Africa but returned home before the third Test after picking up the injury during training.
Genge, who missed this year’s Six Nations after injuring his shoulder, and will now be unavailable for England’s November Test Series.
The loosehead sent a message to his fans on Twitter, saying: "Thanks for all the kind words around my injury, don’t worry about me I’ll be back before you know it."
“Gengey has had the operation and everything went well from that point of view. He’s well into his rehab work now and then he’ll start fitness work and building up to play again,” Leicester Tigers coach Matt O’Connor said.
“But he will miss the first phase of the season and we’re probably looking at him playing again in the new year at this stage. But he’s working hard on his recovery and will be good to go when he comes through that rehab.
“It is obviously very disappointing for him and for us, but I’m sure he’ll be raring to go once he gets back to full fitness and we know there’s still a lot to come from him.”
