Ex-England boss Stuart Lancaster has made a bold statement about his future plans for Racing 92, the Parisians announcing that Freddie Michalak will join the staff on a three-year deal this summer. Currently the senior coach at Leinster, where he has worked since September 2016, Lancaster was named earlier this season as the incoming Racing director of rugby for the 2023/24 season onwards.

He has since been formulating his ideas and one of them is the now-confirmed recruitment of ex-France out-half Michalak. The club made the announcement by tweeting: “Bienvenue Fred!”

An accompanying statement read: “Racing 92 is pleased to formalise the signing of Frederic Michalak within its technical team. He is committed for three seasons and will join the workforce under the direction of Stuart Lancaster from the 2023/24 season.”

The 40-year-old Michalak is currently working at Toulon as a consultant in charge of individual player development.

After earning the last of his 77 Test caps for France at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the tournament that ended Lancaster’s time in charge of England, Michalak has since worked as a project manager at Lyon, as general secretary of Monaco Rugby Sevens, as asssistant coach of the Sydney Roosters, and as kick game consultant for the Cronulla Sharks.
