Fans in Wales hoping Young's situation with Wasps can tempt him home

Fans in Wales have taken notice it was announced on Tuesday that Wasps director of rugby Dai Young will be stepping down from first-team duties for an interim period at the English Gallagher Premiership club. 

Young, who has been with Wasps since 2011, is currently enduring a tricky spell with the two-time Heineken Cup winners and will be replaced as head coach by Lee Blackett for the time being. 

While he has not left the club - and there is no indication that he will do so - this is seen as a golden opportunity for the Ospreys, who are also going through a tough season. 

The Swansea-based side parted ways with head coach Allen Clark in November and have since had ex-Wales coach Mike Ruddock at the Liberty Stadium overseeing matters on a consultancy role, with Carl Hogg and Matt Sherratt in charge of the team.  

However, the Ospreys’ future is unclear going into next season, which is why there is excitement at the possibility of not only bringing in a high-quality coach but one that represented Swansea during his playing days. 

The added incentive is that he could potentially bring his son and Wales international Thomas with him. 

Young joined Wasps at a time where the English giants were in a torrid position financially off the field and the Welshman had a lot of factors to contend with in his first season in charge on the pitch as well. 

He managed to stave off the very real threat of relegation and delivered much happier times for the club, particularly after the move to Coventry. 

With Ospreys being in an equally dire state, Young has the experience to navigate them through their current predicament. 

Then again, very little information about this situation has been revealed yet, and there is still nothing to say that the former prop will be leaving Wasps. 

What’s more, rumours have already emerged that Dwayne Peel may lead the Ospreys next season - but many think Young’s face would fit as well.
