Under fire Eddie Jones responds to public backing from RFU

Head coach Eddie Jones has come out fighting as mounting criticism comes his way in the wake of England's fifth Test defeat in a row.

Jones received public backing from the RFU over the weekend, but it's not something the Australian is seeking despite the slump.

"I don't need any dialogue with the RFU, all I need to do is my job and I do my job as well as I can every day", Jones said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"I love the team, I love coaching the team. I am excited about where we are going to go and I realise it is a tough time and I realise our fans and supporters will be disappointed, but all I can assure you is that we will be doing everything that we can, every minute of the day to turn this team around", the 58-year-old said.

"All I can do is coach the team as well as I can".

England's 23-12 loss means that they trail the three-Test series against the Springboks 2-0. They have also dropped to sixth in the World Rugby rankings, their lowest point since March 2016.

"I've been in many of these (runs) and I knew it was going to come for England. You are always going to have a difficult run and every team that I have been in that has been successful we've had a difficult run like this. South Africa in 2007 we lost three of the four Tri Nations games, we were 20-1 (with the bookies) going into the World Cup."

"But the ability to change the team is always there and sometimes you need these periods to learn from, to cement those errors as things you don't want to do again and we are getting some hard lessons at the moment."
