France World Rugby U20s Champions after dispatching Ireland in style
France emerged victorious with a resounding 50-14 win over Ireland in the World Rugby U20 Championship Final held at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town this evening.
The French team showcased their abundant attacking abilities as they pulled away in the second half, leaving the Irish squad struggling to keep up with their relentless assaults on the line.
Richie Murphy's Ireland struggled at set-piece, the French doing a number on the lineout in particular.
It's France third World Rugby U20 Championship on the trot.
Mathis Ferte’s double added to tries from Nicolas Depoortere, Pierre Jouvin, Oscar Jegou, Lino Julien, Leo Drouet and Lenni Nouchi.
Fintan Gunne’s converted try had given Ireland an early 7-0 lead but they were unable to maintain momentum.
A John Devine try did briefly put them 14-10 ahead just after the half hour mark before France – semi-final conquerors of England – pulled away.

Don't think you've watched enough. But let's see how the future pans out. I'm quietly confident we have a row of 10's lined uo who would each start in many really good teams.

To better understand some of the entrenched bitterness of those outside of NZ and NSW (as an example 😂), Nic, there is probably a comparison to the old hard heads of welsh rugby who are still stuck in the 1970s. Before the days where clubs merged, professionalism started, and the many sharp knives were put into the backs of those who loved the game more than everyone else. I’m sure you know a few... But given your comparison of rugby in both wales and Australia, there are a few north of the tweed that will never trust a kiwi or NSWelshman because of historical events and issues over the history of the game. It is what it is. For some, time does not heal all wounds. And it is still festering away in some people. Happy holidays to you. All the best in 2025.
