Further footage released as Michael Fatialofa battles serious neck injury

Further footage has been released of Michael Fatialofa’s remarkable progress from a serious neck injury.

The ex-Hurricanes lock initially spent four weeks in London’s St Mary’s Hospital – three of them in intensive care – after he suffered his injury in Worcester’s Gallagher Premiership game at Saracens on January 4.

He was since transferred to a specialist spinal clinic at the Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital in Aylesbury and has responded well to treatment.

The latest video - an Instagram story video posted by his wife Tatiana - has shown him walking with the aid of crutches.

Last month Fatialofa wrote about his determination to progress as quickly as possible. “Six weeks deep. Doctors didn’t know me. Could be years of grinding ahead but determined to get out of this chair,” he wrote about the videos of his attempts to walk again.

His club Worcester has spoken about Fatialofa’s commendable determination. “Michael’s courage and determination to recover from his injuries are inspirational but he still faces a long period of rehabilitation and an uncertain long-term prognosis,” said Warriors’ managing director Peter Kelly.
