Glasgow supporters react to the return of Stuart Hogg

Fans have reacted to the return of Stuart Hogg to Scotstoun after Glasgow Warriors were drawn in the same group as Exeter Chiefs for next season’s Champions Cup.

Hogg left the Warriors at the end of the season to join the Chiefs, but his return to Glasgow may come much sooner than expected.

The Glasgow fans feel that this was inevitable, and it was written in the stars that the Scotland full-back would be drawn with his old club.

Both Glasgow and Exeter are teams that have ambitions of making a mark in Europe, but have underachieved over the past few seasons. The Warriors lost in the quarter-final last season to eventual winners Saracens, while Exeter crashed out at the pool stages.

However, both sides reached their domestic finals last season, which will fill them with hope. They lost to Leinster and Saracens respectively, probably the competition’s two best teams. This is what the fans are now saying about the prospect of Glasgow facing Hogg in 2019/20:

It is not far fetched to suggest that Glasgow and Exeter are not too far behind the current European giants and both clubs should have high ambitions in the Champions Cup.

That will perhaps make Hogg’s return slightly more heated, as a lot will be on the line when both teams meet.

While Glasgow will know all too well what Hogg can do to them, there is no need for consternation from fans heading into next season’s campaign.

The Warriors are also drawn with Top 14 outfit La Rochelle as well as the Premiership’s Sale Sharks. This is not an easy group by any stretch, but there never are any easy groups in the Champions Cup these days.

However, compared to some other pools in the competition next season, particularly Pool Four and Pool Five, many Glasgow fans will breathe a sigh of relief at their group despite the fact that they will need to meet a familiar face.
