Glasgow Warriors have suspended Scotland international Rufus McLean after the player admitted to domestically abusing his partner for two years.

According to court reports, the three times capped winger demanded passwords to his partner’s social media accounts and that she used a ‘tracker’ on her smart phone.
The court heard how the 22-year-old also pushed girlfriend Cara Haston off him on one occasion leaving her with a burst lip and black eye.
McLean was described as controlling and jealous during their two year long relationship, which had been one-off for the preceding two years.
Glasgow are investigating the matter and are set to make a decision on his future on Thursday. It is likely that the player will lose his contract at the URC side and with the Scottish Rugby Union.
A statement from Glasgow Warriors reads: “Rufus McLean is suspended from all club activity and is unavailable for selection following a guilty plea to charges under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 in December 2022.
“Glasgow Warriors does not condone abuse of any kind and therefore, along with Scottish Rugby, immediately suspended the player following his plea.

“An internal investigation has been instigated and a disciplinary hearing will be held this week.
“Legal proceedings in this matter are not concluded therefore no further comment will be made at this time.”
McLean stepped up from the Scottish Rugby Union’s academy set-up to join the Glasgow squad as a full-time professional in 2020.
