Is Glasgow’s Jonny Gray on his way?
According to reports in L’Equipe and Actu Toulouse, Glasgow Warriors captain Jonny Gray visited Stade Toulousain facilities last week in the South of France.
Yes, he could have been merely visiting his older brother Richie Gray - who is currently on the books with Toulouse - however the meeting is understood to have more closely resembled a job interview than a family visit.
The move would make sense on a number of fronts - for both Gray and Toulouse.
The 23-year-old has already established himself as a Scotland test starter and as a standout international lock. Anyone who at twenty-one-years-old has captaincy bestowed upon is an exceptional talent.
Having both brothers in the second row would bring a certain unity to the Toulouse engine room, which the pairing have displayed in past outings for Scotland.
As brothers the pair will have the sort of brutally honest relationship that director Fabien Pelous will undoubtedly find attractive.
“We know each other very well but we’re very harsh on each other. There are a lot of times when he’s calling me out but that’s the environment we have to have,” said Richie when asked about their relationship.
Lastly, Yoann Maestri (29) will be out of contract by the end of the season, so it looks plausible that it will be a position needing to be filled. Who better to replace the fifty nine time capped Frenchman than the twenty-three-year-old Scot, who as talented as he is now, won’t even be at the peak of his career for another four to five years.
Any potential move won't come to fruition until his contract expires at the end of the 'Pro 12' season, so Warriors fans can enjoy his services for a while longer.
