Wasps have signed Scottish lock Kiran McDonald from Glasgow Warriors for next season. The 6ft 8in lock was this week called up to the Scotland squad for this Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations clash with France at BT Murrayfield. Last June, McDonald was also included in Scotland’s squad for the ultimately cancelled summer internationals alongside current Wasps prop, Robin Hislop.

The 27-year-old has made nearly 50 appearances for Glasgow, making his Warriors debut in 63-0 win against Canada A in 2016. In November 2019 the Glaswegian enjoyed a night to remember in a 50-0 victory over the Southern Kings at Scotstoun. McDonald picked up the man-of-the-match award and the October Warrior of the month prize following a sterling display.

He then scored a vital 79th minute try to secure a bonus-point win over the Dragons in the Guinness Rainbow Cup in May 2021. Wasps boss Lee Blackett, who last week hinted a number of signing were set to be announced by the Gallagher Premiership club, said: “We are thrilled to be adding Kiran to our squad for 2022/23.

“We have been following his progress for the last couple of years and Kiran is currently enjoying his best season so far at Glasgow. Kiran is a great athlete with a lot of potential. He has the ability to play at six or second row and that flexibility will be vital for us over the course of next season.”

McDonald added: “I am very excited to be joining Wasps. The brand of rugby the club play is great to watch and I am looking forward to being a part of the Wasps family. The ethos of the club is one that feels like a good fit for me and I hope I can contribute to some exciting wins next season. I can’t wait to wait to feel the buzz at Coventry Building Society Arena next season!”
