The Bulls have managed to cling on to their utility back Warrick Gelant, despite interest from rival clubs.

The 23-year-old who is comfortable on the wing, full-back or centre has signed a new deal until 2020.

He had been strongly linked to the Stormers, but uncertainty over John Mitchell’s future there may have been a factor in his decision.

“I am happy to confirm that I did extend my contract with the Bulls till 2020” Gelant tweeted.

Gelant is one of South Africa’s brightest stars having worked his way up through Springbok Schoolboys and the Under 20’s, before making his senior debut against Italy last November and now has five caps to his name.

He was on the bench for the opening two June Tests against England and started the dead rubber which the Springboks lost.

Since then he has undergone surgery on a shoulder injury, which has ruled him out for a number of months and forced him to miss out on the Rugby Championship.
