'Immensely grateful' Jones heading back to Glasgow from Harlequins
Scotland player Huw Jones will return to Glasgow Warriors at the end of the current Gallagher Premiership season with Harlequins. A statement by the London club read: “Arriving at The Stoop last summer from Glasgow, Jones will return to his former club ahead of the 2022/23 season following a one-season stint in Twickenham.
“Making over 27 appearances to date since his debut off the bench against Newcastle Falcons in the opening round of the Gallagher Premiership season, the 28-year-old Jones has stepped into multiple positions across the backline for Harlequins during the current campaign, most recently slotting in at full-back in place of the injured Tyrone Green.”
Jones said: “While my time with Harlequins has been a relatively short one, I’m immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to play within this team. This is a special group of players and staff and I’m looking forward to playing my role in a Premiership title defence before returning to Glasgow.
"I’d like to thank everyone at Harlequins and the supporters for welcoming me so warmly this season, I’ll always be proud of my time in this famous jersey.”
Harlequins head coach Tabai Matson added: “Huw has been a great addition to the team this season. He’s put in the hours and bought into the way we play and our ethos.
"We’re looking forward to seeing Huw finish the season and wish him the absolute best as he returns to Scotland. He will play an important role in our playoff run-in over the next month and I know he will be keen to finish his time with Harlequins on a high.”
In a separate statement by Glasgow, Jones said: "I’m really looking forward to going back to Glasgow. I lived there for five years and I made a lot of friends and memories, and I’m looking forward to making more both on and off the field in the seasons ahead.
"There is a great core group of players at Glasgow that wants to take the club forward and I’m really keen to be a part of that. I have gained a lot of valuable experience playing for Harlequins this season and I’m excited to return and show how I’ve developed as a player, and to pull on the Glasgow Warriors jersey again.”
Head Coach Wilson added: “We are really excited to bring Huw back to the club. Huw has shown for both Glasgow, and more recently for Harlequins, he is a real attacking presence at both 13 and 15. We wanted to add to our midfield to bring depth to an already strong position and the fact Huw can genuinely play other outside back positions will further enhance our squad depth for next season.”

It's a growing team and players need to find their feet in this new system. A bit harsh after all the hard work this AB's team put in this year. Only a fool expects any new team to suddenly be the golden team who is undefeatable.
