Ireland's Ringrose set for lengthy absence following shoulder surgery

Ireland centre Garry Ringrose has been sidelined for four to five months after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Ringrose sustained the injury during Leinster’s Pro12 semi-final loss to Scarlets, but toured the United States and Japan with Ireland.

However, the issue flared up again while on the tour and Ringrose has now gone under the knife to correct the problem.

A Leinster statement read: “Leinster Rugby can confirm that Garry Ringrose underwent an operation last Monday.

“The operation to address an ongoing shoulder issue was successful but Ringrose will be out for 4-5 months, depending on his rehabilitation.

“Ringrose started in all three of Ireland’s summer tour fixtures against USA and Japan, scoring two tries and kicking one conversion.

“This came at the end of a season in which Ringrose started 17 games for Leinster (nine Guinness PRO12, eight Champions Cup), scoring seven tries (four PRO12, three Champions Cup).”

Both tests were tight in SA last year and it was only the ABs inability to close out in the final quarter that prevented them from winning at least 1 of the games, especially the first one with the lead they had. They'll be better this year for sure. This might be the best Rugby Championship in several years.

Lol, they said the same prior to the 2023 WC! Ageing Boks are like a good red wine, they just keep getting better.

I will rather have ageing players like Etzebeth, Lood de Jager, and Kolisi, with a wealth if winning experience, to balance the enthusiasm of youth.

If you are relying on the age factor, prepare for some more heartbreak 💔

Rugby is failing commercially. Clubs gone or going broke, many worth less than their debt.

Disruption is scarey, and wary folk would rather stick to what’s failing and hope a preferred “safer” answer come along.

T20 was hated and villifed. It now funds all cricket globally.

Catamarans were frowned upon yet underpin that industry's multi billion $ racing.

MMA fighting is abhorrent and yet boxing is struggling to keep up now.

R360 has a lot wrong but some good intentions. How it ends up will probably look nothing like it plans to. But it will throw up new ideas and alternative solutions. Every Oz and NZ SR is broken, we can keep it alive with band aids but bigger ideas are needed. I believe these will trickle down from global disruption. I don't think we can fix it ourselves

What success is it that you are the victim of? RWC? Champions Cup? 6N? VdF seems like a good guy and great player and I have loved cheering him on in a Lions shirt. Saying he has been ‘the best flanker in the Six Nations for some time’ is bollocks though. Looking at the headline stats from the 2025 6N, VdF makes it into the top 5 performers in the ‘Tackles Made category. He came in at number 5 with 61 tackles, Cros was ahead of him with 70 and Jac Morgan topped that category with 88. Earl, T Curry and Morgan are each in at least another 3 categories each for top performers including breakdown steals, cleanouts, meters made, and ruck arrivals. https://www.sixnationsrugby.com/en/m6n/stats/2025

Well the Irish backlash is still going on…..shocked.

When Gatland was pro-Welsh there wasn't much said…..but now Andy Farrell is seen as pro- Irish!

Results speak loudest……….

I do feel so much for Josh Van der Flier…….missed out on last tour, won World Player of the Year, standout 7 in 6Nations, only true 7 on this tour and he misses out on test team……… dreadful, shocking, awful for the young man…….he may never get that shirt now.

The option to replace Kinghorn and manage his minutes was Marcus Smith so leaving him on meant there was no chance of him replacing Lowe and Tuipulotu’s hamstring was the day after he’d been told he was dropped. And yes, the Ryan decision had already been made.
