Israel Folau is back in rugby after agreeing a cross-code switch

Israel Folau is back in rugby after signing a deal with France-based Catalan Dragons to play in the Super League.
The former Wallabies star had his contract terminated last year by Rugby Australia for homophobic remarks on social media.
An out-of-court settlement followed late last year following months of fallout stemming from Folau being sacked over his controversial social media posts, which read: “Drunks, Homosexuals, Adulterers, Liars, Fornicators, Thieves, Atheists, Idolators: Hell Awaits You. Repent! Only Jesus Saves.”
With that ordeal now behind him, he has decided to return to the rugby code where he first made his name professionally.
He started in 2007 at the Melbourne Storm before switching to Brisbane Broncos. He also played State of Origin and represented Australia before changing sports.
However, he is now back in the 13-a-side code after agreeing to terms with the Perpignan-based Dragons who kick off their new campaign with a visit to France by the Huddersfield Giants.
Folau’s decision to switch to the Super League mirrors the move that Sonny Bill Williams has made. The former All Black called time on his union career by joining the Toronto Wolfpack, who play their opening match next Sunday in Leeds versus Castleford Tigers.
