Joe Marler is never shy about coming forward, be it on the pitch or on social media.

England ran out 32 - 20 victors over favourites Ireland in their opening game of the Six Nations, physically dominating Joe Schmidt's men in a way that simply hadn't been seen since a bruising encounter with the All Blacks in November 2016.

In the wake of the dramatic underdog victory, the Harlequins prop took to Twitter on an expert fishing expedition.

And he landed more than a few. Marler, who last year retired from international rugby duty, tweeted: "It's coming home @EnglandRugby"

The responses were varied and many, not least from fellow players. Tim Visser helpfully tweeted a picture of the current Six Nations table, which features Scotland on top.

Former Welsh centre Tom Shanklin was clearly amused.

All Black and fellow prop John Afoa chipped in with: "I’m waiting for the....”England beat ireland, ireland beat NZ, so England beat team in the world” chat! but could be in 8 months."

Harlequins teammate Renaldo Bothma suggested that it was in fact Joe's aunt that was coming home.

Joe had the last laugh of course, signing off his haul with the classic and understated fishing rod signal.
