Johnny Sexton has rubbished Ireland's current No1 world ranking

Johnny Sexton has said that Ireland must emulate South Africa in lifting the Webb Ellis Cup before they can truly be regarded as the world’s best. Andy Farrell’s men climbed to the top of the global rankings on the back of their stunning summer series win in New Zealand. Ireland’s status will be given a stern examination on Saturday evening when the formidable Springboks – rugby’s reigning world champions – visit Dublin.

Captain Sexton admits the achievement puts a target on his Ireland side’s back but dismissed its significance as he insisted lifting silverware is all that matters. “Honestly, it’s not something that we really talk about much,” he said. “It’s not a goal to become number one in the world. That might sound stupid.

“In some sports, it is – golf, tennis – but in rugby the rankings matter once and it’s three years out from the World Cup (when the draw is made), which doesn’t make that much sense either. We don’t speak about being number one. To be number one in the world, you need to win the World Cup, that’s where the goals are.

“Obviously you want to be the best in Europe, you want to win the Six Nations, those are our goals; it’s nothing to do with being number one and I don’t think many teams read too much into it. I know the other teams will probably refer to us now trying to put pressure on it but we don’t speak about it.”

The tantalising Aviva Stadium clash kicks off Ireland’s autumn schedule, which also includes appointments with Fiji and Australia, and serves as a dress rehearsal for next September’s World Cup pool stage meeting in Paris.

While Sexton talked down the importance of the world rankings, he expects the Springboks to use it as a motivating factor as they attempt to mess up the hosts. The influential fly-half believes Ireland must surpass the scintillating performances which toppled the All Blacks in order to mastermind another headline-grabbing victory.

“We have to give them the respect that they absolutely deserve,” the 37-year-old said of three-time world champions South Africa “They are the best team in the world in terms of they are world champions. They are a top-class team. They have obviously won the World Cup, they beat the Lions (in 2021) and had some big results over the last few years so in terms of testing ourselves it’s huge.

“We need to bring our game and make sure we do it even better because when you have a couple of results, like we did in the summer, teams start to properly look at you and they go, ‘How are we going to mess up this Ireland team? How are we going to combat this?’ We have got to do it better and we have got to evolve a little bit and make sure we bring something new to the table.”

The Springbok team selected for THIS game is arguably the strongest team selected in the past 12 months - which shows the BOKS are arriving to do business :-)

Such a tantalising match-up, the physically direct and abrasive pressure the Boks exert at the breakdown, setpiece and linespeed versus the innovative phase attacks and passing patterns from the Irish to manipulate defences.

Sexton is at the top of his game and the best 10 in world rugby at the moment. He'll be targeted by the Boks and one hopes fairly and legally as well.

I think our team might have a bit more inside information on the Irish than NZ did, playing in the URC. Still, missing Pollard is a huge problem for us.

It is going to be a massive game. The previous results of 2014 and 2017 is pre-historical and does not account for the 2019 and 2021 results the Springboks achieved to date. Furthermore , the Springboks will try to enter the RWC as no 1 and current champions

Leinster cleanse palette with record URC scoreline against Zebre

My name is Solenn Bonnet, and I am a single mother navigating the challenges of raising my two-year-old child while trying to make ends meet. I came across a trading platform that promised astonishing daily profits of 18%. The allure of such a high return on investment was too tempting to resist, and I found myself drawn into cryptocurrency trading. Excited by the prospect of financial freedom, I invested a significant amount of my savings, totaling over 5.7 BTC. However, what started as a hopeful venture quickly turned into a nightmare. The platform was a scam, and I lost everything I had invested. The emotional toll of this loss was immense; I felt devastated and helpless, struggling to provide for my child and keep up with my bills. In my desperate attempt to recover my funds, I sought help from various recovery experts. Unfortunately, I encountered numerous fraudulent individuals who claimed they could help me retrieve my lost money. Each time I reached out, I was met with disappointment and further scams, which only deepened my despair. Last year was one of the most challenging periods of my life, filled with anxiety and uncertainty about my financial future. Feeling overwhelmed and at a loss, I confided in a close friend from church about my situation. She listened compassionately and shared her own experiences with financial difficulties. Understanding my plight, she introduced me to Tech Cyber Force Recovery, a group of skilled hackers known for their expertise in recovering lost funds. Skeptical yet hopeful, I decided to reach out to them as a last resort. Their services came at a higher cost, but my friend generously offered to help me with a partial payment. I was amazed by how quickly they responded and began the recovery process. Their team was professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire ordeal. To my relief, they successfully recovered more than I had lost to those heartless scammers. This was truly transformative, and I felt a sense of relief and gratitude that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I strongly encourage anyone who has faced similar challenges or fallen victim to scams to reach out to Tech Cyber Force Recovery. If you’ve invested in a fraudulent platform like I did, they are highly capable of helping you reclaim your hard-earned money. Don’t lose hope; there is a way to recover what you’ve lost.
