Los Pumas scrumhalf Martin Landajo has walked away from his contract with Top 14 side Perpignan a year early.

The Argentinian signed for the French outfit in 2021 from Harlequins but his time at the club has not gone to plan.

The club said that Landajo didn't want to pursue a further year with the club. The veteran nine had made just six appearances on the Top 14 and was struggling to adapt to his new environment in the south of France.

"Lack of playing time […] and encountering difficulties in adapting, Martin did not wish to continue his contract with Usap," said Perpignan. "The club, therefore, accepted the player's request by releasing him from his second year of contract. We wish him well for the rest of his career."

The 34-year-old is one of his country’s most capped Test players with 84 appearances and was part of the Argentina squad which reached the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup.

He made his debut for Los Pumas in 2008 and last played for the blue and whites in 2018 against the Barbarians.

The Argentinian signed for Harlequins in 2019 and went on to make 33 appearances for the Londoners over the span of two successful seasons.

Prior to Harlequins, his first taste of top-level club rugby came with the now defunct Jaguares in Super Rugby, where he spent three seasons.
