Leicester boss Wigglesworth signs ex-Wasp as his own replacement
Leicester Tigers boss Richard Wigglesworth has confirmed the signing of Sam Wolstenholme on a short-term contract.
Scrumhalf Wolstenholme will take interim Leicester Tigers head coach Richard Wigglesworth's place in the squad after the veteran retired as a player last month after it was revealed that he would be taking over from Steve Borthwick as head coach.
Wolstenholme previously played for Wasps where he made 30 appearances. Prior to joining Wasps for the 2019/20 season, he played for Yorkshire Carnegie. Wolstenholme is a former student of Oakham School and Loughborough University, and he also spent time on loan with Hull Ionians while playing for Carnegie.
Wigglesworth said: "Sam is an exciting addition to our group and we're confident he will add depth to our scrum-half ranks as well as competition for places, which is a really positive thing."
"He knows the area and the importance of Tigers to it, after attending school and university locally, and is a young man with a lot of potential and growth in his game.
"Sam also has experience in the Premiership and Europe, which is of great value and we're looking forward to seeing him commence with the squad."
Wolstenholme joins Leicester Tigers "effective immediately" the club have said.
Tigers have released four players in the last 15 days. Tom Cowan-Dickie, Gabriel Oghre, Tom Horton and Lachlan Shelley have all departed Welford Road.

I was at this match. Jordie Barrett earned his money with a massive hit to slow a connaught attack to win the math when Leinster had 14 in the last few mins. Mack Hansen had a real go at the refereeing after citing a serious head hits on Iaone and Aki.
connaught were up for this. Snyman tried a trademark dirty after, and the onnaught 4 and the onnaught pack absolutely laid into him.
Leinster hose to kick to the corner when only winning by 5 with 10 left and qith only 2 tries scored. onnaught should have punisihed them for that utter stupidity after they broke out and Leinster yellowed to stop the attack.
13 changes from last week. It seems teams are scoring about 10 points less against Leinster this year. With Neinaber in his second year, the new attack coah established, surely they will be a bigger threat in champions up? Or will the attack recgress further.
They must adopt the SA philosophy of take your 3 pointers and the bonus points will come.
connaught back line inluding Iaone, Murphy, Aki, Forde, cordero is the seond best in Ireland surely. Leinster were lucky here
