Leicester captain Tom Youngs gets surprise news on his wife's cancer battle
Leicester Tigers captain Tom Youngs has revealed that his wife is “in remission” after a four-year battle with cancer.
Youngs' brother Ben Youngs opted against touring with the British and Irish Lions last summer after being told that Tiffany Youngs condition was terminal.
“It’s unbelievably good news compared with where we were this time last year”, Tom Youngs said.
“We would like to thank everyone for their support during the last year. It has been absolutely phenomenal.
“At the Tigers, from chairman Peter Tom right through the club, everyone has been superb with us. And outside the club too, everybody has tried to help in their own way.
“It has definitely been a great support knowing so many people have been there for us.”
Following the positive news Ben Youngs will now go on England's summer tour to South Africa, with the first match in Johannesburg on June 9th.
“We are a very close family and the Lions were very understanding when Ben made his decision last summer. We wish him and all of the England squad all the very best in a big series in South Africa next month.” Tom said.

An article on Leicester Tigers website revealed that Tiffany Youngs went on a course of alternative treatments and diet changes and she also thanked well-wishers too.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support and the kind gestures from everywhere,” she said.
“Our families and close friends have been at the centre of that, but also the messages and support from all around rugby have been huge – and not just from when we first told everyone last year, it has gone on all the time. Everyone has been so kind."
“To now be in remission is brilliant news and now we’re just looking forward again.”

Go to commentsI'd rate the brothers Hendricks a point or two lower. Jaden has really not delivered on his early promise and Jordan's kicking at posts was quite erratic. Amongst other things.
I was really surprised that DuhDuh was replaced and not Jordan. DuhDuh had a great game and just underlined his class in a backline that was not firing on all cylinders.
Damian Willemse was missed. Hopefully he'll be back to full fitness and have an injury free 2025 (and '26 and '27 and so on until he decides to retire to spend time with his grandchildren).
RG was great. What an athlete.
Very happy that Hanekom made his debut at last. He gave a good account of himself and will hopefully grow into his role on the international stage.
All things considered, this was another frustrating Bok performance. Even though it was a comfortable win, it wasn't a commanding win. This Welsh team should've been put away by a far larger margin.
But I have faith in Dr Rassie. He knows more than I do. Bring on 2027 😁
