Leicester's worst fears confirmed after Jaco Taute injury

Leicester’s squad resources have taken another hit as midfielder Jaco Taute is expected to be sidelined for up to three months. 

The South African picked up the injury in last weekend’s Gallagher Premiership hammering at Sale and scans have not been kind to the player as they highlighted a torn bicep in his left arm.

Following consultation with a specialist, it has been decided that Taute will undergo exploratory surgery to repair the damage. 

Speaking to the Leicester Tigers website ahead of Saturday’s home league game versus Worcester, boss Geordan Murphy said: “It’s very disappointing for Jaco and all of us at the club.

“Jaco had a delayed start to the season with a knee complaint but has performed well for us in the midfield and provided a calm, experienced head in each game he has played since starting his career in Leicester.

“We know he will be diligent in his recovery and are hopeful of seeing him back in action this season. But we will not be rushing anything that could see him have another disrupted pre-season programme.

“Jaco will continue to be a major voice in the squad during his rehabilitation, which we are lucky to have given his experience in the game.”

Leicester are currently eleventh in the Premiership halfway through their 22-match schedule following just three wins in eleven matches.
