Lions hold off second-half Stormers comeback to secure URC win

The Lions held off a spirited fightback from Stormers to secure a 30-23 win in round 11 of the United Rugby Championship at Emirates Airline Park.

The hosts enjoyed an 18-point lead at half-time after tries from Morne van den Berg, Henco van Wyk, and Marius Louw, the first two coming with Warrick Gelant in the sin-bin for deliberately slowing the ball down after making a try-saving tackle.

Gelant made partial amends with a superb individual score early in the second half and Evan Roos also crossed after Richard Kriel was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on.

However, the Lions defence held firm under concerted pressure before Jurie Matthee’s penalty secured a losing bonus point.

The Stormers are a poorly coached side. That much is obvious from their regression over the last four seasons.

The ‘Irish’ added nothing. Of course the Irish nobody would be ‘invited’ to visit the ‘EU President.’ You think the Luxembourgish drunk, Juncker, had any influence? It was window dressing. Look, an Irish nobody is off to visit a Luxembourg nobody. ‘But, look at their TITLES. One’s a ‘Taoiseach’ and one’s a ‘President’ that must be where the power and action resides.’

The Irish are just laughable. You genuinely believe you have ‘influence’ in the EU. Remainer fanatics in the British establishment conspired with their power broker networks in the EU to scupper Brexit, and when this failed, deliver BRINO.

The Irish, as always, were allowed to do the press conferences providing they did EXACTLY as they were told.

The one who didn’t get the message was Enda Kenny. He started doing ‘silly’ things like applying pragmatism to the border issue early on. Obviously, he was put right on what was required and little Leo simply asked ‘how high’ when Brussels said ‘jump.’

At 9 ,Dupont is out , Lucu walk with crutches, Couilloud is out for some month, Serin was injuried Sunday night. Jeauneau will probably be sélected. So if Toulouse and Bordeaux are in the final, the 5 players available for NZ should be choose among guys like : Graou, Castro Ferreira, Vergé, Lacombre, Brennan, Lamothe, Etchegaray, Cazeaux…. Instead of Cros, Lucu, Penaud and co…In the 42 players, maybe will we find some U20 like Brau- Boirie and Etchegaray or Daunivucu who was in Argentina Last year…
