London Irish heap more misery on Pat Lam's Bristol basement boys

By PA
Pat Lam - PA

Bristol’s miserable season continued with a 23-7 defeat at London Irish after another poor performance which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Premiership.

They are now two points adrift of 10th-placed Bath.

Irish had far more industry and attacking ideas to their game and were rewarded with tries from Benhard van Rensburg and Ben White. Rory Jennings converted both and added three penalties.

A try from Harry Thacker converted by AJ MacGinty was Bristol’s sole response.

      Being Barbarians – Rugby Documentary

Our new rugby documentary follows Scott Robertson and Ronan O’Gara in a brand new saga following the Barbarians rugby team, one of the most famous sides in the world. In this clash, they take on New Zealand XV.

Prior to kick-off, Irish suffered a big blow when talisman Paddy Jackson failed a fitness test to withdraw with a calf injury. Jennings stepped up from the bench to replace him at fly-half.

It was Jennings who had the first opportunity for points and he made no mistake with a 30m penalty to give his side an eighth-minute lead.

That penalty was the only score of a dour opening 19 minutes, which saw neither side threaten the try-line with their attacks blunted by the wet conditions.

With their first attack, Bristol were on the try-scoring sheet when bursts by Ellis Genge and Semi Radradra put the home defence on the back foot and this enabled Thacker to slip away from a maul and race over unopposed.

Irish responded with an excellent try. Scrum-half White quickly took a penalty in the opposition 22 to leave their opponents floundering and when the ball was recycled, skilful handling created the space for Van Rensburg to slide over in the corner.

Jennings converted from the touchline and then had two opportunities to kick penalties from virtually the same position. On both occasions Irish chose attacking line-outs, only to lose both before success came with their third.

They won possession and displayed good ball retention before White made a sharp break. He fed captain Rob Simmons who drove forward with White on hand to pick up and score, with another superb kick from Jennings giving Irish a deserved 17-7 half-time lead.

Within a minute of the restart Jennings kicked another penalty before Bristol suffered two further setbacks in quick succession when they lost backs Gabriel Ibitoye and Noah Heward to injuries.

The penalty from Jennings was the only score of a featureless third quarter as Bristol seemed bereft of ideas as to how they could get back into contention.

Jennings missed with a penalty which would have made it a two-score game but it mattered little as Bristol never looked like clawing back the deficit with Jennings putting the final nail in their coffin by succeeding with his third penalty five minutes from time.

‘He has to be involved’: Wallaby calls for key selection ahead of Lions

The Initial Coin Offering (ICO) I invested in appeared flawless, its website was sleek and authentic, the whitepaper was detailed and convincing, and the team boasted impressive credentials in cryptocurrency.I was eager to capitalize on a golden opportunity. Confident in my research, I invested $200,000, only to watch in horror as the entire operation vanished days later. Just as I was resigning myself to the loss, I discovered Muyern Trust Hacker by searching online. Taking a leap of faith, I reached out, and from the very first interaction, their team stood out for their professionalism and urgency. Their experts meticulously followed the digital trail across multiple wallets and exchanges, leaving no stone unturned. After a week of relentless effort, they achieved the impossible: $175,000 was recovered. While not the full amount, it was a staggering victory considering I had assumed everything was lost forever. The relief was indescribable. Thanks to Muyern Trust Hacker,  I could repay a significant portion of what I owed my mother and regain some financial stability. This has taught me a harsh lesson about the risks of crypto investments but it also showed me the power of expert intervention. For anyone who has fallen victim to a scam, Muyern Trust Hacker ( Te le gr am: muyerntrusthackertech ) is the rescue team in an otherwise bleak situation. Their recovery services turned my crypto disaster into a second chance.

As the balance of power shifts away from Ireland, has Andy Farrell got his Lions calls right?

I'm a little more surprised at your overt, small man bias against Leinster.

Made me chuckle, I worked for them for 7 years! But I do have the good sense to realize that they have not won the silverware they should have.

So you should be wondering what needs to be added to make that happen. Nobody would argue with picks like Porter, Sheehan, Furlong, McCarthy, JVDF, JGP, Ringrose, Keenan and Lowe.

Outside those it is conjecture, and sadly you’re too thick to see it.

For example, Kelleher may be a better edge forward than George. Is he a better lineout thrower, or a better leader to have on the pitch at the finish of games? Absolutely not. James Ryan has been pretty quiet for the better part of a couple of seasons now.

Jack Conan is a good number 8 among a lot of other good forwards in Dublin, Aaron Wainwright and Jac Morgan have been keeping the Welsh pack afloat ever since the last RWC.

You’d need a much broader rugby mind and upbringing to know it.

Of course not, as only an idiot would drop an entire cohort of players due to one lost game now, wouldn’t they?

And here is the root of your problem in a nutshell. They cannot be ‘dropped’ when they were never in the squad in the first place.

You are the ‘ass’ in ‘assume’.

Leinster players do not pre-select themselves and they are not automatic choices. There, that’s your rugby ABC for today. Rest of the alphabet to follow when you grow up.
