Los Pumas back row quits Scarlets as Welsh exodus continues

It has been confirmed that Argentina international Tomás Lezana has left Welsh URC side Scarlets to take up a contract with French side Montauban – effective immediately.

The news comes as the Welsh regions roll out new contracts this week, many of which are at a significantly reduced rate.

Lezana has joined up with the Pro D2 side this week as a ‘medical joker’, bringing to an end two seasons in West Wales.

The 29-year-old back-rower made his debut against Leinster in Dublin in 2021 and has played 19 matches, scoring three tries. Capped 40 times for his country, he arrived in Llanelli in May 2021 after featuring for the Pumas in The Rugby Championship.

A dynamic carrier with an outstanding workrate, Lezana made his international debut against France in Paris in 2014 and came off the bench in Argentina’s historic victory over the All Blacks last year. He has played for the Jaguares in Super Rugby and has this season been playing for the Force in Super Rugby AU.

Lezana, who stands at 6ft 1in and weighs in at 104kg, leaves the Welsh side with their best wishes.

Head coach Dwayne Peel said: “We’d like to thank Tomás for his efforts as a Scarlet over the last couple of seasons. We wish him well with his move to France.”

300,000 tickets sold and counting for 'era defining' Rugby World Cup

I suspect the major holdback is still for other unions to sell their tickets. One thing I did notice and didn’t know how to quantify is that the major areas of availability seem to be the standing sections in the grounds that have them.

If we assume that those are a) around 5-10% of the total tickets (a guess) and b) there are still around 10-15% held back, then 80% of the available seats would get us to c350k.

reminded me that we have the Women’s Soccer Euros a month or two ahead of the RWC. A good run there could well stoke additional interest for the rugby, especially as the broadcasters and the sports themselves seem to be getting their act together in terms of promoting a summer of women’s sport.

But even without that, what’s clear is that the tournament has already met its planned sales and that the matches will be well attended, with the bigger ones almost certainly selling out. I imagine that financially we’re now well into upside territory.

Be interesting to see our tactics on Saturday. Last time at Welford Road we played some beautiful stuff but kept going to the well when we started to make mistakes. I'm sure that Sanderson and Ford will have learned from the experience.

Yes and newly-minted legends like ‘Champ Rugby’ also cost a lot of money for the ‘creativity’ need to produce them. At least you are getting something back when a stadium gets renamed after a company, not so sure about this. IIRC Barclay cvhanged their logo a while back, they just tilted the letters forward a bit. Goodness knows how many millions that cost.😁

So good to see Fletcher Newell, David Havili and especially Will Jordan back for the Crusaders to face the Reds in the Quarter Final. This is a very good side and some good players have not made the bench. Great bench, likes of James O’Connor, Johnny McNicoll, Cullen Grace others there. Crusaders “Rookie” of the Year, Kyle Preston there. Some big discussions around the selectors table , given the options.

Well shift workers and factory workers all do. Guys on night shift can’t get to training and guys working weekends can’t play. It’s caused a massive drop in player numbers for last 20 years.

Brumbies & Hurricanes will both progress unless either of the top 2 suffer a shock loss to either the Blues or the Reds in which case bye bye to the loser. Crusaders should comfortably dispose of the Reds but the encounter between the Chiefs and a possibly resurgent Blues could be tight.

James O'Connor, the Lions and the great club v country conundrum

There is maybe a precedent for picking JOC in the mix with McDermott and Lynagh. They have played together at the Reds and JOC has previously been in that mentoring role. Maybe less disruptive with them than with Noah and say, Nic White or Lonigan if he is going for combinations.

Hahahaha, greatest cricket era, you mean that game where they’re dressed in private schooled white jumpers and drink tea during the numerous breaks and intervals over hours of monotonous and tedious tip toeing?! Ya, hard men and a tough game! Sledging is part of every team sport no problem with it and players don’t have. When it comes down to kicking penalties or during a penalty shootout in this instance, you should respect the kicker as a player or management and shut up. Some integrity and respect is needed in that case.

By the way , what’s the deal with changing your name from Bull Shark? It’s a very weak move changing your name if you thought you were getting bullied. I would have thought you had abit more balls, with the couple tough shark names you go by? It would seem to me ironically, going by what you posted above, that you can’t handle the sledging?! I think periwinkle or the little mermaid may be more apt???
