Luke Fitzgerald tweets what every Leinster fan is thinking ahead of Toulouse
Leinster have persistently faced a problem over the past season in the Champions Cup over their selection.
The competition only allows two players in the matchday squad from Australia or New Zealand, meaning the reigning champions need to forgo one of James Lowe, Scott Fardy or Jamison Gibson-Park.
This is a dilemma faced by Leo Cullen ahead of Leinster’s match with Toulouse in Dublin on Sunday, as all three players are integral to the side.
Former Leinster and Ireland outside back Luke Fitzgerald also raised this issue on Twitter, highlighting what many fans will be thinking. He also discussed this in the Irish Independent, as he expressed how disappointing it would be to see Lowe miss out on an opportunity to face the French outfit.
This is what he said:
With the Dubliners looking thin on the ground when it comes to scrumhalves, Gibson-Park is in an advantageous position, and very likely to feature at the Aviva Stadium at the weekend. With Devin Toner returning from injury, that does not place as much importance on Scott Fardy, but it would still be bizarre to see the Australian overlooked, meaning Lowe will probably be the unlucky player that has to drop out of the squad.
The New Zealander has been sensational for Leinster since arriving midway through last season, but with the likes of Adam Byrne and Jordan Larmour in the squad, they can afford to go without him.
Nonetheless, Fitzgerald is right in highlighting that it would be disappointing for Lowe to miss out, as it is undeserved, and the semi-final will be worse off without him if he is the one to miss out.
Toulouse are in red-hot form currently, and while Leinster may be slight favourites playing in Dublin, they will need to be at their best. All fans will be hoping Cullen makes the right choice regarding his selection.

Wow, there is a lot of “could have” and “ should have” in this waist of time dribble. I love the deportation in this story to search for a glimpse at a silver lining. Here are the facts, NZ was a badly coached and undisciplined shadow of their former glory. They never took the lead in a game they were never going to win.

I don’t think the ABs Wallabies game should be a one off winner takes all though, just the first match with the other two later in the year with the RC. Reason being, no one will ever shut up about how aussies couldn’t win it when it was a 3 match series.
