New Toulon signing Alun Wyn Jones applauded for selfless act

Former Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones continues to inspire both on and off the rugby field.

Following Toulon's victory over Bayonne last weekend at the Stade Mayol, Jones displayed his admirable character by taking a moment to pick up litter from the stadium grounds. The wholesome gesture, captured on video, has been well-received on social media.

"You can be the most capped player in world rugby history and be a model citizen," read a Tweet from the offical Top 14 account.

It was a nice moment for Jones, who suffered a nightmare debut for Toulon the weekend previously against Lyon.

Jones came off the replacements bench in the 51st minute but his debut was short lived, as he was sent to the sin bin just minutes later.

They went on to lose 27-15.

The former Wales and British and Irish Lions captain signed for the French club as a “medical joker” for the duration of this year’s World Cup.

Jones, 37, announced his international retirement in May as the most-capped player in world rugby.

The second-row forward, who had been named in Wales’ preliminary World Cup squad, has played a world-record 170 Test matches – 158 for Wales and 12 for the Lions.

Jones ended his 17-year stay at the Ospreys in June.
