Ollie Smith gets Emerging Scotland call to end year out with injury
Glasgow Warriors full-back Ollie Smith is poised to bring his year-long spell on the sidelines to an end on Saturday after receiving a call-up to the Emerging Scotland squad to face Italy U23 at Edinburgh's Hive Stadium.
The 24-year-old has not played since December 2023, where he ruptured his knee ligaments against Bayonne.
Just one day shy of a full year out of action, the nine-cap Scotland international could make his return in the new Scotland side.
The Emerging Scotland squad was named on Monday, but has now been altered to accommodate the full-back who last represented his country at the 2023 World Cup.
Smith has therefore been released by Glasgow, who will face Toulon at the Stade Mayol a day after Emerging Scotland's clash with Italy U23.

Thanks Nick, if I remember rightly we (Rebels) benefitted big time from the Force falling over on paper, this time the talent seems a bit more distributed. Trouble is, the results did improve slightly in the short term (they literally couldn't possibly get worse after 2017) but IIRC players were even harder to keep a hold of.
I like your idea of an Aussie partnership with overseas clubs, it seemed like London Irish were heading that way a few years ago.
Go to commentsThe scheduling hasn’t been kind for him, lose either of the first two games and it would be a poor look, probably viewed in a pretty dim light by fans in relation to their expectations…
