PRO14 have already called off one match ahead of the approaching Storm Dennis
With the UK and Ireland set to be struck by Storm Dennis this weekend, one of the planned Guinness PRO14 fixtures has already fallen victim to the forecast.
Tournament organisers issued a statement on Thursday evening calling off the Dragons versus Benetton match that was fixed for Saturday evening at Rodney Parade, a decision that saves the Italian from making a potentially needless journey.
“In the interests of supporter and staff safety, the round eleven Guinness PRO14 Dragons vs Benetton Rugby fixture at Rodney Parade - scheduled for Saturday, February 15, KO 19:35 - has been postponed due to the extreme weather conditions forecast,” read the PRO14 statement.
“The decision was made by tournament organisers PRO14 Rugby following consultation with club stakeholders, the Welsh Rugby Union and officials at Benetton Rugby. Match tickets for the game will be valid for the rearranged match.
“PRO14 Rugby and host broadcaster Premier Sports will identify a date to accommodate the rearranged fixture. Discussions between all parties are underway and PRO14 Rugby intends to confirm the rescheduled date as soon as possible.”
