Prop veteran turned scrum coach Du Plessis' plays first game in a year - breaks nose, loves it

Glasgow prop Petrus Du Plessis savoured his first game in a year as he helped the Warriors to five points in Italy.

The former Saracens player moved to Scotstoun last summer on a joint player-coaching role but the 38-year-old had not been required to pull his boots on until Saturday’s clash with Benetton in Treviso.

And it turned out to be a gentle reintroduction to action as Dave Rennie’s side cruised to a bonus-point 38-19 win.

Scrum-half George Horne stole the headlines with a brace of tries but veteran Du Plessis was just as pleased with his own contribution.

He told the Warriors’ official website: “I enjoyed every minute. It’s not hard for me to get up for games like this.

“I don’t have many left and this gave me a chance to gain respect from the players. Scrum is what I’m good at and in my first scrum we got the penalty which lifted the energy.

“I left it all out there today and I’ve got a nose to show for it.”

Petrus still sees room from improvement for next week’s Heineken Champions Cup clash against Exeter, adding: “There were a few tries that we shouldn’t have let in.

“We’ll take a look and learn from them going into Exeter next weekend.

“We will take lots of positives from this but Exeter are a well-drilled side and we’ll need to step up again this weekend if we are to walk away with the win.”
