Argentina will take on the All Blacks in Mendoza on July 8 in a slimmed down Rugby Championship, which has been reduced to just six matches because of the World Cup in France.

The Pumas also announced on Saturday that they would travel to Australia on July 15 and play a pre-World Cup warm-up test against world champions South Africa.

The four countries who compete annually in the Rugby Championship usually play each other home and away but in 2023 it will be once only.

Argentina have a single home game against New Zealand, followed by Australia away and then South Africa on July 29.

The rest of the 2023 Rugby Championship fixtures have not yet been announced by SANZAR, the competition’s governing body.

The UAR said South Africa would then travel to Buenos Aires for a Test on August 5 at the Velez Sarsfield Stadium, which was not part of the Rugby Championship but a warm-up for the World Cup.

“We hope to have a great year, always trying to improve all aspects of our rugby, so that more and more people can enjoy the sport, either as athletes or spectators, and that we can continue to grow the passion for rugby,” said a statement from UAR president Gabriel Travaglini.

All SLAR teams have the competitiveness that USA and Canada rugby need obviously. Which means if SLAR and the MRL was combined all American nations would benefit.

Uruguay could provide a team with Chile, Brazil and a developing USA raptor under 23 squad would create an evenly contestable SLAR SHIELD to play for. With several cross-over games against Americas second division teams as extra games to prolong their SLAR shield comp etc.

Argentina’s could easily spread their rugby - athletes within four teams to have a four-team Argentinian SHIELD, and still be able to beat some of USAs MRL premier or division one teams in crossover games to prolong both Argentina’s and USAs MRL season’s.

The MLR is USAs rugby non-competitive joke presently as it not one competition and is split into two conferences. Where all the talent might be in one conference in certain years regardless of a team’s geography. When all the teams play each anyway, like having two even divisions that aren’t EVEN as conferences. This ‘method of madness’ with its idiotic format, can only deplete USAs rugby competitiveness. It’s amazing USA could bet Hong Kong and Kenya as USA destroy their own competitiveness with division by “not” having one tribal PREMIERSHIP.

Obviously the MRL format can be fixed and if they partnered with Argentina rugby, by having crossover Super rugby games that would benefit both nations. As USA’s MLR top four divisional one teams could play against Argentina’s top four teams for an American SHIELD with minimum travel, which would benefit USA and Argentina rugby.

Having USA’s MLR top four division one teams playing off against Argentina’s top for teams for an American SHIELD. By having quarters, semis and a FINAL. Is the competitive rugby USA needs to get out of their RWC Pool play. That could be played for in a short or long format that will avoid too much geographic travel etc. AMERICAN RUGBY COULD THRIVE………………… BUT where’s the plan that benefits all American rugby?

Which is still a far better idea than the SLAR rugby comp in my opinion. The MRL is a far better comp than SLAR and should partner with Argentinian rugby to play for an American shield and let SLAR play with themselves.

It's a pity money doesn’t grow on trees, to help create a descent American rugby premiership for professional athletes to commit too. That would strengthen all Americas rugby with a heap of SILVERWARE to play for as a team’s goal.

Maybe world rugby or a billionaire will sponsor USAs MRL to create a 20 team American PREMIERSHIP. Where all Americas teams are put one of four shields as extra SILVERWARE to play for, that suits Americas huge geography. Where they play each other within their own team’s competitiveness as a nation’s shield, with several competitive contestable cross-shield games added to make a decent season of rugby happen.
