Melbourne Rebels star Quade Cooper took to Instagram on Friday to take a dig at Reds coach Brad Thorn after his side’s comeback win against the Brumbies.

Cooper was dropped completely from the Reds ahead of last season’s Super Rugby campaign as he was not part of Thorn’s plans, leaving him playing club rugby for Souths.

However, he was signed by the Rebels for this season, where he has made a blistering start alongside his former half-back partner Will Genia.

In light of this, Cooper posted a picture with the caption “Ones man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure” on his Instagram account, as he is continuing to prove his former coach wrong:

Some thought that the fly-half’s Super Rugby and international career may have been over when he was released from the Reds last season, as it was a very low point in his career. However, he has bounced back superbly, and based on his current form, Thorn must rue ever letting him go.

Cooper is playing with the swagger and finesse that made him a star earlier on in his career. His no-look pass for Marika Koroibete’s try against the Brumbies epitomises the confidence that he is playing with at the moment. With every performance like this, the campaign for him to be selected for the Wallabies grows, as will his satisfaction in showing many of his doubters that he is still a star at this level. After a rocky 2018, it is understandable that he wants to take a swipe at his former coach.

The Rebels are now three from three in this year’s championship, while the Reds are yet to find their first win.

The Rebels travel to South Africa to take on the Lions and the Sharks over the next two rounds, before they head to Queensland to play Cooper’s former club. He will no doubt have a thing or two to say again if the Rebels find the win there.
