Racing and Stade's Top 14 games postponed after merger revelations

By Peter Thompson

Stade Francais and Racing 92's Top 14 fixtures, which had been scheduled for Saturday, have been postponed after stunning plans for a merger between the two clubs were announced.

The National Rugby League (LRN) held an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss controversial plans for the Paris rivals to join forces.

It was reported on Wednesday that Stade players have gone on strike and the LRN has agreed for their match at Castres and Racing's trip to Montpellier this weekend to be called off due to the "unprecedented nature of the situation."

League bosses revealed that discussions over the proposed merger will continue on Monday.

An LRN statement said: "A new appointment is scheduled for Monday, March 20 at 6:00 pm at the headquarters of the National League of Rugby (LNR) to continue the discussions.

"The LNR Bureau took into account the unprecedented nature of the situation and decided exceptionally to postpone the Castres Olympique v Stade Francais Paris and Montpellier Herault Rugby v Racing 92 matches this weekend to a later date.

"New dates for the postponed games will be announced by Monday evening."
