Queensland Reds forward Angus Scott-Young is facing a lengthy Super Rugby ban after being cited for striking former teammate James Slipper during Sunday’s win over the Brumbies.

Scott-Young entered a ruck and hit Slipper on the back of the head with his right fist in the 29th minute of the 36-14 win at Suncorp Stadium.

The 21-year-old wasn’t punished at the time but SANZAAR’s disciplinary committee has since cited him for contravening Law 9.12 which states “a player must not physically abuse anyone”.

Slipper was sent to the sideline for a head injury assessment after the incident.

Sunwolves flanker Ed Quirk was red-carded for a similar offence last year and SANZAAR’s citing commissioner deemed Scott-Young’s actions met the threshold for a red card for foul play.

Quirk was later given a two-game ban for his offence.

Scott-Young will learn his fate at a judicial hearing on Monday afternoon.

It’s tough to rise to that level and win away two weeks running vs quality opposition, even for Munster.


Overall I’d say Crowley is ahead of SP atm, no doubt over SP potential but he’s still got a way to go and actually deliver on it. That said, if he manages to steer Leinster to the CC this year, and he might just do exactly that, well all bets are off in that scenario…

From what I’ve watched of the Premiership, it tends to move in cycles. I’m sure it will revert back to defence after some of the hidings of this season.

How the Gallagher Premiership has become rugby's go-to league for thrill seekers

Well it is relevant. When you've got a team that is literally the Ireland team plus Barrett and Snyman against a club side with a modest salary cap results like 62-0 are going to happen sometimes. But I agree Quins were awful. Clearly the premiership is not in a good place, all our teams are getting humped. Saracens got humiliated by Bordeaux, Toulouse put 80 points on Leicester. Something needs to change, it's fair to say English defences aren't good enough right now. Our teams were doing considerably better before COVID and the mandatory salary cap reductions for what it's worth, having the larger squad with a few more star players would help them to be more competitive but there are other issues to be fixed.


Sarries possibly had 11 people with international caps, I didn't bother to count but they didn't have 11 established internationals, they rested all their best players. Had Itoje, Daly, George, Earl etc been there, it may have been different.
